ANNANDALE, Va. (WUSA) -- An antique coin and bank note collection, worth between $300,000 to $500,000, was stolen from a vehicle in the Annandale area on Saturday, police said.

It happened at around 7:20 p.m., in the 3800 block of Stuart Circle, police said.

"An elderly
...more couple returned to their home ... after attending a coin show in Charlottesville, Virginia. They parked their vehicle in the driveway and went inside their home. When they returned to the vehicle less than 10 minutes later, they discovered their entire collection of coins and bank notes missing from their car," police said.

Police believed the victims were targeted by a person or people who followed them from the show to steal the collection.

"The items were inside three brown leather briefcases, two document holders and a leather backpack which were all hidden under a blanket in the rear hatch area of the car," police said.

ANNANDALE, VA (WUSA)-- Fairfax County Police are investigating a murder-suicide that hits close to home.  John Jackson, a former sergeant with the department and his 13-year-old daughter, Alexis, were found dead from gunshot wounds inside a sport-utility vehicle in Annandale.

The car
...more was parked in the driveway of a home on Forest Grove Drive in the Sleepy Hollow Neighborhood.  Neighbors say the home has been owned by the teenager's grandparents for the last thirty years, but that her mother also lives there.

"It's just horrible.  It's the worst thing. I can't even believe that we live here and that happened," said Doris Kinder, a neighbor who says she heard three gunshots."

Fairfax County Police are calling it an apparent murder-suicide, but they're still investigating who pulled the trigger and why.  Police say they won't know for sure what happened until the medical examiner is done determining the cause and manner of death.

ANNANDALE, Va (WUSA) -- Religious freedom and an about face for Fairfax County schools.

A high school honor student sued the school district after an advisor refused to credit her for volunteer hours she served at her church.

But now the schools have decided to give the
...more unnamed girl the credits -- and reinstate her to the honor society.

In her lawsuit, the 17 year old senior at the prestigious Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, alleges that by denying her credit for these volunteer work hours at her church Sunday school, the school here is effectively denying her a shot at an up to 13-thousand dollar scholarship, and violating her fundamental right to religious freedom.

"There's no honor in saying to an honor student, 'your community service at a church doesn't count,' says Jordan Lorence who represented the teenager on behalf of the conservative Alliance Defense Fund.

ANNANDALE, Va. (WUSA) - Prosecutors in the Chardon, Ohio school shooting say the suspect chose his victims at random and that bullying didn't have anything to do with it. But we haven't heard from the defense attorney yet, and the talk that the shooter may have been bullied has a local college
...more student speaking out.

"When I was being bullied, I thought everyone hated me. Even the people who said they liked me, I thought hated me," said David Aponte, who is now a confident and impressive student at Northern Virginia Community College and is headed to George Washington University next year.

But when he was in elementary school, he was bullied relentlessly by kids who used to be his friends. They taunted him for being Jewish, short and smart, he says.

"They would just start making fun of me for various things. For my size, for my religion, the fact that I was in the gifted education program. Really just constantly degrading me. I mean, it's all of the

Pastor Steve Reynolds of Capital Baptist Church in Annandale is gaining a national reputation as the “lose weight for Jesus” preacher. Within the past week, he talked about his “Bod4God” approach on the “Today Show” and “The View.” Members of Reynold’s church lost more than 12,000 pounds (that’s...more six tons!) since he started the Losing to Live program four years ago. In January, he started delivering a series of sermons on his faith-based approach to weight loss. Anyone who wants to try the Losing to Live weight loss competition is invited to a kick-off meeting at Capital Baptist Church, 3504 Gallows Road, Sunday, Feb. 12, at 6 p.m.
The program is open to anyone. You don’t have to be a member of the church. Reynolds says people from “any faith or no faith” are welcome, although people should understand that the program is based on the Christian Bible.
“It’s all about eating less and exercising more,” Reynolds says. Rather than recommend a particular weight loss plan, the program
