FALLS CHURCH, Va. (WUSA) -- Hundreds of parishioners filled the Falls Church Anglican for Sunday's five o'clock service, marking the last time they'll ever be together in their nearly three-hundred year-old church.
After losing a five year legal battle that revolved around the...more philosophical direction of the Episcopal Church, nearly four-thousand parishioners here are without a spiritual home, having been ordered not to return to the church after Sunday.
The legal battle began because parishioners felt the national Episcopal Church had become too liberal over the years, as evidenced they say by the Church's recent practice of ordaining gay priests.
The historic church was founded back in the 1730s. George Washington was an early board member. On Sunday, one of the church's longtime pastors considered what Washington would have though of the controversy.
