According to The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, every 14 minutes someone in the United States commits suicide.
Help raise awareness to this growing issue, and reach out to those affected by suicide at The AFSP National Capital Chapter 's Second Annual Charity Golf

Last year, the organization was able to raise $18,000, which benefitted the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and their dedication to understanding and preventing suicide through research, education and advocacy programs.
The 18-hole golf tournament is located at one of the area’s nicest courses at Andrews Airforce Base in Md., and features a fully catered barbeque lunch and refreshments.
The tournament also incorporates contests and prizes including restaurant gift certificates, and paid vacations to Chicago, Florida, and San Francisco, as well as trophies for winning foursomes.

GREENBELT, Md. (WUSA) - Prince George's County Fire Department Spokesperson Mark Brady says three tour buses, including one with middle school students from Dallastown, Pa. headed to D.C. for sightseeing, were involved in collisions on the Inner Loop of the Capital Beltway in Greenbelt on
...more Wednesday morning.

Brady says that the Beltway traffic slowed down before the BW Parkway and a box truck hit the back of a bus, causing damage to the engine and disabling the bus.  

Brady also says two separate crashes involving the two other buses happened on the Beltway near Kenilworth Avenue.

Eight passengers/students from the first collision complained about neck and back pain, according to Brady, and four students and one adult from the second collision complained of illness or injury. He says no injuries were reported on the third bus.

In total, more than 80 passengers were evaluated at the scene but only 13 were taken to hospitals for minor injuries or

At the bottom of the first, the Raiders went to work quickly with a leadoff double to left from senior center fielder Avery Lomax. The Raiders then earned two runs off of a two-out triple to right from junior Isaiah Lopez.

GREENBELT, Md. (WUSA) -- A motorcycle driver died after crashing in Greenbelt, emergency officials said. 

The crash happened at around 6:39 a.m., on the Outer Loop ramp and Kenilworth Avenue.

Crews are still investigating the cause of the crash.

Outer Loop Ramp to Kenilworth Avenue was closed for about 2 and a half hours after the crash, causing major delays to the morning commute.

WASHINGTON (AP) - A federal judge in Maryland has sentenced a former government employee to 18 months in prison for stealing thousands of recordings from the National Archive and selling many on eBay.

...more more than 40 years working for the National Archives and Records Administration, the country's most important repository of historical records. He pleaded guilty to theft of government property in October.

The man who noticed the theft and helped capture the thief is a retired radio engineer from Connecticut, J. David Goldin. Goldin spotted on eBay a record he'd donated to the archive in the 1970s, setting off an investigation.

GREENBELT, Md. (WUSA) - A driver whose crash on the BW Parkway last July resulted in the death of a passenger has pleaded guilty today to involuntary manslaughter and to driving a vehicle on a federal park highway after his license was revoked.

According to his plea agreement, Jackson was driving on the Baltimore Washington Parkway on July 7, 2011 with three passengers. Another driver called 911 after seeing Jackson swerve and drive out of control. While on the phone with 911, the motorist saw Jackson's car accelerate, hit a guard rail, swerve across the road, lose control and crash into trees. The rear driver's side passenger in the car was killed and the other two passengers were seriously injured.

GREENBELT, Md. (WUSA) - A Frederick, Md. man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for selling crack.

Twenty-eight-year-old John Hamilton Kaine will serve prison time followed by three years of supervised release for distributing cocaine base. He got a longer sentence because the
...more judge found out Kaine had three previous drug convictions.

According to his plea agreement, on April 1, 2011 Montgomery County police officers in Germantown saw Kaine engage in two drug transactions. Kaine got into a car and drove away, but the officers stopped the car.  He tried to flee, throwing away a plastic bag containing 30 wrapped pieces of crack (totaling 12.67 grams). Kaine was arrested and the plastic bag filled with crack was recovered.


GREENBELT, Md. (WUSA) -- A former corrections officer at the Prince George's County Detention Center has pleaded not guilty to charges related to the in-custody death of a pretrial detainee, Ronnie White, on June 29, 2008.
