The event features music, guest speakers, and performances from local artists. The stages and...more event areas are named for famous clubs during the Harlem Renaissance: Cotton Club, Connie's Inn, Small's Paradise, and more.
One of the featured speakers will be Dick Gregory. He is best known as a comic who uses satire to portray his message on civil rights.
One of the key messages of the festival is the building of community, especially among our region's African-American neighborhoods. "There was a recognition [in the Harlem Renaissance] of what was called the 'new Negro,'" said David Harrington, the chairman of the Harlem Remembrance Foundation. "We're connecting that to what's going on today."
"We wouldn't have the Civil Rights movement if it weren't for

WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- By this point, you should understand who Robert Griffin III is. His gifted skills as an orator and presence of leadership gave many fans the chills when the quarterback walked onto Fed Ex Field for the very first time.

Here...more are three quotes that stood out to me from Saturday's press conference.
RGIII on being on the most anticipated Redskins draft pick ever:
"I went to a signing in Chantilly and saw seven different variations of my name on a shirt (laughs)...So I kind of understand the anticipation and excitement. It's just more than one person. The quarterback always gets all the attention, he also gets all the criticism. So it's not necessarily how you can take the praise and the attention, it's how you can deal with the type of criticism."
RGIII on whether he has relationships with any current Redskins
"I do know Orakpo...He played at Texas, so no friendships there

LANDOVER, Md. (WUSA) -- Jessica Williams was supposed to be in a Bible study class on Wednesday night at Jericho City of Praise Church in Landover.
Instead, she was outside the locked church with dozens of her fellow parishioners, fellow angry parishioners, after the church's...more board of trustees fired the City of Praise's pastor, Joel Peebles.
"My pastor is a wonderful man of God. His family built this church from the ground up," Williams said.
The firing of Pastor Peebles caps a two-year long feud within the church. The bitter wrangling began when Peebles's mother, Betty, the founder of City of Praise and the church's long-time pastor, died back in 2010.
In dispute, apparently, is not just who will be the church's spiritual leader, but who will control its finances. The church reportedly has millions of dollars in assets.
In a statement released Tuesday, the church's board of trustees said, in part, that Pastor Peebles' firing
It looks like Robert Griffin III will land in D.C. after all. Check out the tweet below that ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter sent out Thursday morning. So, with Luck looking like he's an official lock to go to Indianapolis with the first overall pick in the NFL Draft, it seems as though Griffin will end up in Washington. Thoughts on this news?
Could Jabar Gaffney be on his way out of town? The Redskins veteran WR certainly thinks so. Check out the tweet featured below that was sent out by Chris Russell from ESPN Radio 980 earlier today after speaking with Gaffney. Do you think trading Gaffney would be a good move for the team?
