WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- DC Mayor Vincent Gray announced a deal with Microsoft to train citizens during a press conference on Wednesday.

Gray said that people were working on apps at tech meet-ups to hail cabs, fix meals and more, reports 9NEWS NOW's Bruce Johnson.

In a press
...more release from the mayor's office via email, the partnership with Microsoft aims to bring "increased technology access and computer-skills training to District residents, provide new resources for teachers and students and implement development initiatives aimed at helping District-based small businesses."

To do reach that goal, the Department of Employment Services will give training on basic technology tools to residents and DC Public Schools will give its teachers more access to tecnology resources as part of the Digital Alliance with Microsoft.

The release included this statement from the mayor:

WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- January 13, 2012 marks the 30th anniversary of a Metro crash that killed three people. A car of a Metro train derailed on the same snowy day in 1982 as the Air Florida Crash.

On Jan. 13, 1982, a train on the Orange Line was backing up through over a crossover
...more switch between Federal Triangle and Smithsonian during the evening rush hour when a car derailed and crashed into a pillar between two tunnels. The Blue and Orange lines were shut down.

Some passengers who were able to walk away after the crash told WUSA's Bruce Johnson that they spent 45 minutes in the dark inside the car before rescue workers could pry open the train doors and guide them to safety. At least one person was trapped, according to that early report.

9News Now's Bruce Johnson reports that Thomas admitted, in a clear voice, to the judge Friday morning that he was guilty of the charges against him.

Johnson says that for the first time in court, the word "kickbacks" was heard in reference to the scheme. WASHINGTON (AP) - The D.C. Council has approved a broad package of ethics reforms and sent it to Mayor Vincent Gray for his signature.  The
Council has been under pressure because several members and Mayor
Vincent Gray have drawn the scrutiny of federal and
...more local
investigations.

The Council approved the bill Tuesday by a 12-1 vote. Councilmember Tommy Wells, a Ward 6 Democrat, voted no, saying the bill didn't go far enough to limit the influence of corporate donors.

Thomas joined a majority in voting
for the Ethics bill--although Thomas had not one word to say in support
of the legislation--he continues to deny all interviews: Weeks ago FBI
and IRS agents raided the councilman's home as part of a federal
investigation into his allegedly converting three hundred thousand
dollars from a kids baseball program to his personal use

The bill creates an ethics board with the power to
